LOCATION

Kavala is a place renowned for its history and beauty, a place that dominates the Northern Aegean Sea with its island, Thassos.
Since the antiquity, this place with the town of Filippi has claimed a distinguished position in Greek history, as it was connected with the policy of Phillip II in the area, as well as with the state of Macedonians, its great goals for the East and the epical campaign of Alexander the Great. During the Roman and the Early-Byzantine times, in this very place the town of Filippi developed into a center of Christian worship. It was there that Apostle Paul established the first Christian church of Europe, by baptizing the first Christian of Europe in the waters of the river Zygaktis. That was a woman called Lydia, who was subsequently proclaimed a saint (Agia Lydia).

Nowadays, the vestiges of the town of Filippi with the ancient theatre constitute a pole of attraction for a great number of visitors.
