Department of Science
The Department of Science was founded and functions by the law 1404/83 and belongs in the School of Technological Applications. It supports the teaching of courses in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Information Technology. The department also contributes to the development of programmes, the introduction of general education courses, and the application of new methods that aim at the improvement of teaching. The department also undertakes research, community programmes and services. The department is divided into the following four sectors:
1. Information Technology;
2. Mathematics;
3. Physics;
4. Chemistry - Chemistry and Technology of Materials.
Sector of Information Technology
The sector of information technology aims teaches computer programming to students in all the departments of School of Technological Applications. This is realised with various courses per department of specialty as follows:
Department of Electrical Engineering:
• Tools of Information Technology;
• PC Programming I;
• PC Programming II.
Department of Mechanical Engineering:
• Introduction to Computers;
• Introduction to Computer Science.
Department of Technology of Petroleum and Natural Gas:
• Computer science I;
• Computer science II.
Members of the department perform applied and technological research in Information Technology. Also, the department deals with various subjects of information technology and tries to contribute in the growth of Information Technology in the institute.
Sector of Mathematics
This sector offers instructive work to the School of Technological Applications through the teaching of mathematics. At the same time, the department develops appreciable research work in the field of Applied Mathematics. The courses that are taught, per department are:

Sector of Physics
This sector has the responsibility to teach physics to the students in the School of Technological Applications. It also develops collaborations and research activities with other institutes. The courses that are taught by the Sector of Physics, per department, are:
• Physics in the 1st semester of the Department of Electrical Engineering;
• Physics in the 1st semester of the Department of Mechanical Engineering;
• Physics in the 1st semester of the Department of Technology of Oil and Natural Gas.
The sector of physics has two laboratories, that can accommodate up to forty students, for the realisation of basic laboratories exercises. The laboratory is completely equipped with the latest mechanics- electricity- magnetism- and optics-related technology. The laboratories exercises that are carried out in the laboratory include the following subjects:
• Method of Minimal Squares;
• Study of Maintenance of Mechanical Energy;
• Measurement of Intensity of the Field of Gravity.
Sector of Chemistry and Technology of Materials
This sector has the responsibility to educate students in the School of Technological Applications on the basic notions of Chemistry. It covers Analytic Chemistry, General and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Electrochemistry and Chemical Technology. The courses that are taught by the department:
• General Chemistry in the 1st semester
• Analytic Chemistry in the 1st semester
• Organic Chemistry in the 2nd semester
• Organic Chemical Analysis in the 3rd semester
• Electrochemistry & Technology of Materials in the 1st semester
• Chemical Technology in the 1st semester
At the same time, the Sector of Chemistry supports the development of Diplomatic Essay in subjects that are related to the institute’s research activities and develops collaborations with universities in Greece and abroad.
